NASHA MUKT SIKKIM

• Collaboration with Schools and Parents: Engaging educational institutions and families in preventive measures.
• Involvement of Elected Members and Stakeholders: Ensuring active participation from community leaders and stakeholders.
• Sahayogi Program: Implementing the Sahayogi initiative, which focuses on providing support and resources to vulnerable groups, including youth and families, to prevent substance abuse.
Additionally, the campaign advocates for partnerships with pharmaceutical companies to set up deaddiction centres through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, thereby expanding access to services in underserved areas.
Action plans and communication strategies are detailed to address various population segments, such as youth, parents, unemployed individuals, government officials, and drivers. The campaign highlights the importance of rigorous monitoring at interstate and international borders, supported by effective surveillance and inspection systems to combat drug trafficking.

The State Anti-Drug Action Plan emphasises a multi-phase approach, including immersion, analysis, ideation, creation, implementation, and monitoring. This plan aims to reduce drug abuse, rehabilitate affected individuals, and create a supportive environment for long-term recovery.
One Month Awareness Program held during June - On 1st June 2025, 3rd IRB Battalion Manglay commemorated 50 glorious years of statehood with a strong call to action against substance abuse for a drug-free Sikkim.

JUNE 2024:
STATE LEVEL COORDINATION MEETING ON 19th JUNE 2024
The first state-level meeting of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Committee was held on 19th June 2024 at the Social Welfare Department, chaired by Smt. Sarika Pradhan, Secretary. Key members from the Health, Education, and Police Departments, along with representatives from NGOs, de-addiction centres, and senior retired officials, attended.
The meeting began with an address by Special Secretary Shri Satyen Pradhan, who emphasised a coordinated approach to tackling substance abuse, with a year-long state campaign in focus. Departments presented their plans, including infrastructure and manpower support, school-level initiatives, and community involvement strategies.
The meeting featured discussions on strategies, a presentation of the action plan, and valuable inputs from all stakeholders. It concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Mahesh Sharma, Joint Director of the Social Welfare Department, appreciating the members' contributions.
BRIEF REPORT: OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE ON 26th JUNE 2024
The Social Welfare Department of Sikkim observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, themed "The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention." The event, chaired by Hon’ble Minister Shri Samdup Lepcha and Secretary Social Welfare, Smt. Sarika Pradhan, highlighted the state's commitment to eradicating drug abuse.
Secretary Pradhan welcomed attendees, leading them in a collective pledge against drug abuse and introducing a new QR code system for digital pledges. Dr. Satish Rasaily, Senior Consultant, delivered a keynote on the rising drug abuse trends and the need for targeted awareness programs and stronger law enforcement.
Minister Lepcha urged collaboration with stakeholders to fulfil the vision of a "Sunowlo Sikkim, Samriddha Sikkim" and promoted community-driven initiatives like "Each One Help One." He emphasised the critical role of families and communities in prevention and support.
The event concluded with a summary by Mr. Satyen Kr. Pradhan, Special Secretary of Social Welfare, reiterating the department's commitment to this cause.

JULY 2024:
LAUNCH DAY NASHA MUKT SIKKIM CAMPAIGN ON 2nd JULY 2024
The "Nasha Mukt Sikkim" campaign, aimed at creating a drug-free environment in Sikkim, was officially launched today at Chintan Bhawan. The campaign, under the theme “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention,” will span the entire year.
The launch event, organised by the Social Welfare Department, was attended by a host of prominent figures, including Mr. Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, and other senior government officials such as Mr. Samdup Lepcha, Minister of Social Welfare, Mr. Arun Kumar Upreti, Minister of RDD & Cooperation, and Mrs. Pamin Lepcha, Advisor to the Social Welfare Department.
The event featured:
• Presentations: Detailed discussions on substance abuse, past initiatives, and future strategies.
• Social Media Launch: Introduction of the campaign’s social media pages and unveiling of its logo.
• Grants: Distribution of financial aid to several rehabilitation centres across Sikkim to support their efforts in combating drug addiction.
The program emphasised the need for a coordinated approach involving all sectors of society to address drug abuse effectively. It concluded with a call for collective action to make Sikkim a drug-free state.

AUGUST 2024:
FREEDOM RUN HELD IN ALL SIX DISTRICTS ON 3rd AUGUST 2024
On August 3rd, 2024, the Government of Sikkim, under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, organised the "Freedom Run" across all six districts as part of the Nasha Mukt Sikkim Campaign. The event, coordinated by the Social Welfare Department, aimed to combat drug addiction and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Hundreds of participants, including students, government employees, and the public, took part in the run, which featured different categories and prizes. The initiative raised awareness of the dangers of drug addiction and promoted fitness as a positive alternative to substance abuse.
Prominent officials, including Shri Samdup Lepcha, Smt. Tila Devi Gurung, and Smt. Anupa Tamling, inaugurated events in their districts, ensuring widespread engagement. In Gangtok, additional indoor activities, such as chess and carom, were held to offer constructive alternatives to substance use.
The Freedom Run was a key step in fostering a drug-free Sikkim, showcasing the united efforts of the government, local leaders, and citizens to build a healthier community.
